The Rijeka Bypass is located on the section from the Matulji Interchange to the Orehovica Interchange. The part from Matulji to Diračje is constructed as dual carriageway, 3.05 km long, and the part from Diračje Interchange to the Orehovica Interchange as a single carriageway, 8.856 km long (southern Rijeka Bypass carriageway).
Construction works on the southern Rijeka Bypass carriageway began in January 2008 and consist of:
- Upgrade of the main alignment with the south carriageway connections to the constructed sections at the Diračje and Orehovica Interchanges, Diračje and Orehovica Interchange upgrade, Rujevica Interchange construction, drainage of the alignment and intersections’ drainage, construction works for the cable canalization and noise protection wall (l=14.021 m), construction of retarding basins Podmurvice I and II, Krnjevo II and III.
- Construction of structures: Rječina Bridge, Katarina and Mihačeva Draga Viaducts, Škurinje Underpass, Kozala Overpass (upgrade) and the overpass at the Škurinje Interchange, pedestrian overpass Malonji and Vrhovo improvement
- Construction works in Trsat, Katarina, Škurinje I and Škurinje II Tunnels
Almost 30% of works of overall section’s length which is 8.856 km, refers to construction of structures:
- four tunnels: Trsat (858 m), Katarina (190 m), Škurinje I (412 m), Škurinje II (560 m)
- two viaducts and bridge: Katarina Viaduct (112 m), Mihačeva Draga Viaduct (189 m), Rječina Bridge (208,5 m)
- two overpasses and one underpass: Kozala Underpass (55 m), overpass at the Rujevica Interchange (29 m), underpass at the Škurinje Interchange (30 m)
Overall length of tunnels is 2.020 m, 509.5 m refers to big structures (bridge, viaducts), and 114 m refers to smaller structures (overpasses, underpass).

Due to a traffic accident, which happened at the 234th km of A3 Bregana-Lipovac motorway, at Sredanci rest area in direction Lipovac only one road lane is free.
